New Green building study finds Australian building sector committ

4th of November 2008 - 4:51 PM

A recent study into the adoption and ramifications of green building has revealed that 85 percent of Australian architects, engineers, contractors and building owners have embraced the concept, in an effort to help reduce the building sector’s energy consumption and carbon emissions contributions.
The Green Building Market Repor t 2008 is based on a large-scale empirical market study conducted by BCI Australia, a member of the leading provider of construction information services in the Asia-pacific region, BCI Group. The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) participated in the research and provided its own contributions on the progress of Green Star certifications in Australia.
BCI Australia CEO, Dr Matthias Krups, said the results showed a higher level of involvement and commitment to green building, compared to the previous report released in 2006. “Our New Green building study finds Australian building sector committed to green building research shows that Australia is well placed to take on a leadership role in sustainable design and green building in the region.”
According to the report, a growing number of architects choose to be involved in green building based on a desire to be ‘part of an industry that values the environment’, whereas 100 percent of building owners surveyed as part of the study cited lower life cycle costs as the main reason behind building green.
The study predicts strong growth in government and commercial office green buildings, and found that the positive business impacts of green building; such as the rising value of green projects and increasing appreciation of operating cost savings, is becoming more and more universally accepted.
